Technical Issues

I've been programming for years, but much of what I spend time doing is single shot ports or debugging that only goes so far. Not all this time is wasted and I've authored some releasable software. I did the initial port of the Hayes ESP to NetBSD, this code has made it into both FreeBSD and Linux. I also authored the lastlogin utility in the NetBSD release 1.2 as well as disk statistics modifications for the userland utilities.

  • Perl Fnet Client 1.4 - client software for the Fnet/ICB chat system in perl5 for Unix, Mac, and Windows.

  • Apache Proxy Patches 1.0 - patches to Apache 1.3.x proxy module to allow the systematic denial of advertisement banners. (See Banning Banner Ads using a Proxy).

  • Perl Forum Client 1.0 - perl client software for the UCSC forum system.

  • Yow! I Found Jane Fonda's Nighty! - A version of the legendary Zippy the Pinhead Yow! file parser in perl. Useful for picking random lines from text files. Also useful for random pickup lines.

  • Omarspeak 1.0 - Another annoying lexical translator, this one reading like a guy named Omar from UCSC in 1993. Back then, jive and valspeak were pretty funny and novel.

  • SpreadSheet Scan 1.0 - Some diagnostic code I wrote during the Quattro Pro for Windows 1.0 project while I was at Borland. This code can parse and edit WB1, WK1, WKS, and most older spreadsheet formats. I primarily used this tool to identify bugs in the translation of WB1 and WB2 format files.
